Neck & Shoulder Pain
Neck and shoulder pain are two of the most common problems people experience, often affecting everything from daily comfort to sporting performance. Whether it’s tension from hours at a desk, stiffness from poor posture, a trapped nerve or an injury from training or a fall, pain in these areas can limit your movement, disrupt sleep, and reduce quality of life. At Prime Sports Physiotherapy in Edinburgh, we provide expert assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for neck and shoulder pain, helping you move freely and confidently again.
Why Choose Prime for Neck & Shoulder Physiotherapy?
Our physiotherapists have extensive experience treating a wide range of neck and shoulder conditions. From office-related tension and whiplash, to rotator cuff injuries and shoulder instability in patients. We combine hands-on techniques with evidence-based rehabilitation to relieve pain, restore function, and prevent future problems.
At Prime, you’ll benefit from:
- Thorough assessment – we identify the underlying cause of your pain, not just the symptoms.
- Hands-on treatment – soft tissue release, joint mobilisation, and manual therapy to reduce pain and stiffness.
- Targeted rehabilitation – tailored exercises to strengthen, stabilise, and prevent recurrence.
- Lifestyle and training advice – guidance on desk setup, movement habits, and sport-specific modifications.
- Specialist expertise – experience working with athletes and adults alike, from rugby players to office workers.
We treat everyone in Edinburgh and wider areas struggling with everyday discomfort, pain and or recovering from shoulder dislocations or overuse injuries. Whatever the cause, our approach focuses on both relieving pain now and building long-term resilience.
Common Neck & Shoulder Problems We Treat
- Neck pain and stiffness (including postural pain)
- Whiplash and acute injuries
- Shoulder impingement and instability
- Rotator cuff injuries and tears
- Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
- Trapped nerves and referred pain

By addressing both the injured area and any contributing factors such as weak muscles, poor posture, or repetitive strain, we ensure you don’t just feel better temporarily, but stay stronger in the long term.
What to Expect At Prime Sports Physiotherapy
At your first session, we’ll take time to understand your history, symptoms, and how the pain affects your daily life. A detailed physical assessment follows, including posture analysis, movement testing, and strength checks.
Your physiotherapist will then explain the findings clearly and design a treatment plan tailored to your needs. This may include hands-on therapy to reduce pain and tension, mobility exercises to restore range of motion, and strength work to stabilise the neck and shoulders.
Generally we see patients with these types of injuries on average four to six times in the clinic.
As your symptoms improve, we’ll progress your programme to build lasting strength and prevent recurrence. You’ll leave each session knowing exactly what to do at home, with ongoing support from our team.
Take The First Step
Neck and shoulder pain doesn’t have to hold you back. With expert physiotherapy, you can move more freely, reduce discomfort, and perform at your best in everyday life or in sport.
