Falls, Frailty & Deconditioning
Are you finding that everyday tasks that once felt effortless are becoming more of a challenge? Have you had a fall recently, or are you worried that your balance and strength are not what they used to be? Are you a family member who has noticed a change in a loved one and is wondering what can be done to help them stay safe, independent, and confident at home?
If any of that resonates, you are in the right place.
Loss of strength, balance, and confidence can happen gradually and for many different reasons. Age-related changes, a period of illness, a hospital admission, reduced activity, or the aftermath of a fall or fracture can all leave people feeling physically vulnerable and uncertain about what they can safely do. Left unaddressed, deconditioning can create a cycle that is difficult to break, where reduced activity leads to further weakness, which increases fall risk, which leads to further loss of confidence and independence.
The good news is that with the right support, this cycle can be interrupted and managed. Physiotherapy has a significant and well-evidenced role to play in reducing fall risk, rebuilding strength, improving balance, and helping people feel safer, stronger, and more capable in their daily lives.
What do we treat and support?
We work with people who are experiencing general deconditioning and reduced stamina, loss of strength and muscle mass related to age or illness, balance difficulties and fear of falling, falls and near misses, osteoporotic fractures and the recovery that follows, reduced mobility affecting daily activities such as getting up from a chair, managing stairs, or walking with confidence, and difficulty with everyday tasks that were previously straightforward.
What does an appointment involve?
Your physiotherapist will begin with a thorough and unhurried assessment of your strength, balance, mobility, and daily function, taking the time to understand your situation, your concerns, and what you would like to be able to do. From there, a personalised programme is put in place that may include gentle strengthening exercises to rebuild muscle and improve stability, passive movements to maintain joint range and reduce stiffness, soft tissue work to release areas of tension and improve comfort, balance training to reduce fall risk and improve confidence, and practical advice on mobility aids, home safety, and how to move more safely and effectively day to day.
For those who are unable to travel to the clinic, we offer home visits, bringing expert physiotherapy directly to you in your own home or care setting. Working with you in your own environment allows us to give practical, relevant advice tailored to the specific challenges and layout of your home, and means there is no barrier to accessing the support you need.
Who is it for?
This service is for anyone who is feeling less strong, less steady, or less confident than they would like to be, and for families who want reassurance that their loved one is receiving the right support. You do not need a referral to book, and home visits are available for those who need them. It is never too late to make a meaningful difference to your strength, safety, and quality of life.
