Womens Health Physiotherapy

Restore confidence, strength, and control

Every woman deserves to move confidently, without pain or worry. Whether you are recovering after childbirth, managing pelvic floor symptoms, navigating the physical changes of menopause, or simply feeling like your body has not been quite right since having children, women’s health physiotherapy can help. At Prime Sports Physiotherapy in Edinburgh, we provide confidential, evidence-based care designed to help you feel strong, supported, and in control of your body again.

Our women’s health physiotherapist Nikki is the lead women’s health physiotherapist at a local acute NHS hospital and a recognised specialist in her field. She brings exceptional clinical expertise alongside a warmth and compassion that makes all the difference when it comes to sensitive and personal concerns. Nikki creates an environment where you can talk about pelvic health, bladder, bowel, or sexual health issues with the same ease and openness you might discuss an ankle sprain. There is no embarrassment here, just expert, respectful care from someone who genuinely understands.

We understand that pelvic health concerns can feel difficult to raise, which is why every session takes place in a private, comfortable setting where you are listened to and treated with the care and dignity you deserve.

We help women of all ages manage and overcome a wide range of conditions. These include pelvic floor weakness or overactivity, stress or urge incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain and painful intercourse, pregnancy-related discomfort, post-natal recovery including following caesarean section and diastasis recti, and post-menopausal changes affecting pelvic health and function.

We also offer a dedicated New Mum MOT, a comprehensive postnatal assessment designed to check in on your recovery after birth, assess your pelvic floor, abdominal muscles, and overall physical function, and give you the guidance and reassurance you need before returning to exercise or simply getting back to feeling like yourself. Whether you had a straightforward birth or a more complex delivery, the New Mum MOT gives you a clear picture of where you are and what support, if any, you need to recover well.

Your first appointment begins with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. With your consent, an internal pelvic floor assessment may be offered to provide the most accurate diagnosis, though external or movement-based assessments are equally effective where preferred. Your physiotherapist will explain her findings clearly and design a personalised treatment plan that may include pelvic floor retraining and strengthening, breathing and posture work, core and hip stability exercises, manual therapy, scar massage and soft tissue release, bladder and bowel advice, and a gradual return to exercise or running programme where relevant.

You do not have to live with pelvic pain, leakage, heaviness, or worry. With the right support, the vast majority of women see significant improvement in their symptoms and many resolve them entirely. Whether your goal is to return to running, lift your children without discomfort, or simply move freely and confidently again, we are here to help you recover, perform, and thrive.

Our women’s health physiotherapy service is for women of all ages and at all stages of life. You do not need a referral to book. If something does not feel right, or you have been putting up with symptoms you assumed were just part of life after having children or getting older, please do get in touch. You deserve better, and we can help.
