Strains, Sprains & General Aches

Some injuries arrive dramatically. Others creep up quietly. The ankle you went over on an uneven pavement. The hamstring that went during a sprint. The shoulder that has been grumbling since you moved house. The back that tightened up after a long drive and never quite loosened off again. Whether your injury happened in a split second or has built up gradually over weeks, sprains, strains, and general aches deserve proper attention, not just rest and hope.

At Prime Sports Physiotherapy in Edinburgh, we provide expert assessment and treatment for soft tissue injuries and everyday aches, helping you recover fully, move freely, and stop the same problems coming back.

Sprains and strains are often dismissed as minor injuries, but without the right treatment and rehabilitation they can lead to recurring problems, reduced mobility, and long-term pain that is far more disruptive than the original injury. Our physiotherapists are experienced in assessing the full range of soft tissue injuries, identifying not just what has been injured but why, and addressing the underlying factors that may have contributed, whether that is muscle imbalance, movement control, training load, or simply the demands of a busy daily life.

We treat everyone from competitive athletes managing acute soft tissue injuries to active adults, parents on the go, and anyone whose everyday aches and niggles are quietly limiting what they can do and enjoy.

We regularly assess and treat ankle sprains and ligament injuries, hamstring, calf, groin, and quadriceps strains, lower back aches and stiffness, shoulder and neck muscle strains, overuse and repetitive strain injuries, general muscle tightness and joint discomfort, and recurring niggles that keep flaring up and limiting movement. We also treat knee sprains and ligament injuries, rib injuries, and the kind of stubborn everyday aches that have been present for so long they have started to feel normal but really should not.

Your first appointment begins with a thorough conversation about how the injury happened, what movements cause pain, and what you want to get back to. A physical assessment follows, testing strength, flexibility, movement control, and balance to confirm the diagnosis and build a clear picture of what needs to be addressed.

Treatment typically combines hands-on therapy to ease pain and restore movement, targeted rehabilitation exercises to rebuild strength and function, and taping or bracing where appropriate. Where relevant, acupuncture and massage therapy are also available to support recovery and reduce muscle tension. You will leave with a clear understanding of your injury and a practical plan for getting better, and as you progress your physiotherapist will guide you through more advanced rehabilitation to ensure you are fully ready for both daily activity and sport.

Our sprains, strains, and general aches service is suitable for anyone experiencing a soft tissue injury or persistent ache, regardless of how it happened or how long it has been present. You do not need a referral to book. If something is slowing you down, we are here to help you recover, perform, and thrive.
